Quick and Easy Snack Ideas for Busy Parents Cooking for Kids

Snack time can be challenging for busy parents. Take the struggle out of snack time with these quick and healthy snacks kids will gobble up. With ideas like crunchy cereal bars, fruity smoothies, and cheese roll-ups, you'll always have something tasty on hand.

1. Pumpkin Bread

This bread has a soft, moist texture that comes from fresh pumpkin puree in the batter. Unlike some breads, pumpkin bread stays fresh for several days stored at room temperature. Parents can bake a loaf and have quick snacks on hand for a few days.

2. Banana-Chocolate Yogurt Bark

Mix plain yogurt with honey or maple syrup to sweeten it up. Then stir in chopped fresh banana so the yogurt turns pink. Next, spread the yogurt mixture out in a thin layer on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Pop it in the freezer for just 5-10 minutes until firm. Once hardened, drizzle melted chocolate or chocolate syrup over the top and sprinkle on some extra chopped banana.

3. Cold Cut & Cheese Roll-Up

One of the easy snacks to make is a cold cut and cheese roll-up. All you need is one slice of cheese, either mozzarella, cheddar, or Swiss, and one or two slices of Chicken. The roll-ups are full of cheese and meat, and they come together in just a couple minutes.

4. Apple Ring “Donut”

Apple Ring "Donut" is a quick and easy treat that kids will love. Simply slice an apple into rings, removing the core. Spread peanut butter on top of each ring. Then decorate with fun toppings like coconut, chocolate chips, nuts or sprinkles. The apple rings look just like mini donuts!

5. Fruit Salad

Just chop up whatever fruits your kids like- apples, pears, and oranges are all good choices. Bananas are best added right before eating so they don't get brown. Put the chopped fruits in a bowl and pour some orange juice over them. The salad stays fresh for a few days. When your kids want a quick snack, just grab some fruit salad from the fridge!

6. Bread Pizza

Gather bread, pizza sauce, vegetables, and cheese for this quick snack. Take a slice of bread and spread a spoonful of pizza sauce on it, add some onions and bell peppers along with grated mozzarella or cheddar cheese. Pop the bread pizza in the toaster oven for a few minutes until the cheese is fully melted. The bread becomes crispy like a pizza crust, while the cheese and veggies make it tasty and filling.

7. Watermelon And Cheese Salad

Watermelon is a sweet, juicy summer fruit that can be turned into a tasty and healthy salad. Add crumbled cheese with diced watermelon for a refreshing snack. This salad comes together in just 10 minutes, so it's perfect for busy parents who want a quick snack to make for their kids.

8. Dosa Waffles

Dosa Waffles are a quick and easy snack. The best part about dosa waffles is that you can mix up a big batch of the batter ahead of time and keep it in the fridge. That way, when the kids get home from school hungry for a snack, you can simply pour some batter into the waffle maker and have waffles ready in minutes. Serve them up with flavorful Indian green chutneys made with cilantro, mint, and spices.

9. Sweet Potato Fries

All you need is some sweet potatoes, a little oil, and a few spices. First, peel and slice the potatoes into long, skinny fries, add the fries in hot oil and let them cook until they are golden brown on both sides. While they cook, mix chili powder, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl. Sprinkle the spice mix on top. Fries go great with ketchup or ranch dressing for dipping.
